Across Canada, April 28th has been designated the Day of Mourning. This year the City will be honouring those workers on Friday, April 26th at 11:00 am.
Every year, workers, families, employers, and communities come together at ceremonies held around the province to remember those who have lost their lives to work-related incidents or occupational disease, and to renew our commitment to creating healthy and safe workplaces. Unfortunately last year, 131 BC workers died from a workplace injury or disease; we must continue to work hard to reduce this number and achieve ‘zero’ lost lives for future years.
On Friday, April 26th, 2019 please take the opportunity to observe one minute of silence at 11:00 am to remember those fallen workers and to re-commit to creating safer workplaces for our loved ones to work in. We are all responsible for ensuring our workplaces are healthy and safe.
If you are located at City Hall, we encourage you to meet in the Buchanan Square by the flag poles. If you are at Works Yard West (WYW), please meet at the flag pole by the main entrance. The City will fly the flags at half-mast to commemorate those workers.
Please arrive 10 minutes early for the moment of silence.
